Crystal W M Chan

Crystal w.m. Chan was born and raised in Macau, a former Portuguese colony in China. She has lived in Taiwan, Greece and Portugal. She is currently based in New York where she is enrolled at the School of Visual Arts. She started as a self taught artist and since 2012, has had solo and joint exhibitions in Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, San Francisco and New York. Her illustrations often involve figures and portraits that are drawn with expressive lines and strokes influenced by Chinese calligraphy. Her oil and watercolor paintings seek to elicit emotions in viewers through a straightforward, honest and direct approach. Throughout these various mediums, her work is gestural, embodied and conveys an autobiographical sense of history.
