Attia Hayee

Attia Hayee is an Australian mixed-media artist whose work explores perception, emotional residue, and the quiet psychological tension beneath human interaction. Existing between South Asian and Australian cultural identities, her practice aims to balance ornament with absence, tenderness with restraint, and vulnerability with structure. She draws influence from Persian and Mughal miniature painting, weathered everyday textures, and philosophical ideas surrounding impermanence, existential inquiry, and the unseen emotional structures shaping human experience.

Working with graphite, ink, thread, oxidised pigments, translucent watercolour washes, fragmented and overlaid print transfers on textured paper, and natural materials gathered from daily life, she builds layered surfaces through processes of staining, erosion etc aiming to create works that feel fragile, weathered, and slowly altered by time.
