Maks Rz
Maks Rz is a Polish artist and animator whose paintings focus on figures burdened by a faintly doomed sense of ridiculousness, where embarrassment, shame, and minor failures are elevated to near-epic proportions. Drawing on the cultural legacy of a Polish Catholic upbringing, he explores the desire to be taken seriously and the fragile heroism that emerges when dignity begins to slip away.
His debut animated film, Martyr’s Guidebook, screened and received awards at international film festivals including Sundance, Annecy International Animation Festival, Ottawa International Animation Festival, and New Horizons. The film achieved Oscar-qualifying status and was eligible for Academy Award consideration.
