Caroline Riches

Caroline Riches RCA is an artist and academic.

Riches has lectured in fashion design at Leeds Arts University since 2003, specialising in fashion illustration and visual research. Her own artwork explores the tactile relationship we have with fashion through a mixed media approach that references her own experience in regularly teaching life drawing classes.

Alongside her teaching work, Riches has illustrated seasonal fashion collections for the majority of her art career. With a keen interest in fashion history, Riches holds a particular preference for the work of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Cristóbal Balenciaga, specifically between the years 1955-1965.

A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, her most recent practice-based academic research explores the question: 'In what ways do analogue drawing skills enhance fashion thinking?'. Riches exhibits regularly - both in the UK and the US - with established collectors of her work
