Over London Gallery Weekend, SHOWstudio commissioned Lai to transform the SHOWstudio Gallery into a sculptural time warp, where her artistic mind was given creative license to roam free and take from her own past memories to create several characters for the public to interact with.

Charming, whimsical and deeply nostalgic, Lai's sculptures are never the product of one inspiration but a collage of references that make up Lai's artistic world.

Choosing to respond to a curated selection of fashion illustrations from the SHOWstudio archive as inspiration, Lai set about carving her works - all of which borrow from feelings of connection and disconnection while existing in the liminal space between fashion and art.
