Jowy Maasdamme

Bo berdad ta sali, never tame my fly away

£770.00

A self-portrait by Jowy Maasdamme, inspired by the Ashley Williams Autumn/Winter 20 collection. Created whilst in isolation during the Covid-19 global pandemic.

While being in isolation, I have the chance to practise more self care, especially care for my natural hair. As a curly girl with  frizzy hair, I've had to deal with flyaways all my life. Being brought up with the idea that smooth hair is better than a lot of fly-away curls. My hair was labeled as difficult or even bad hair. The love for my fly away halo has grown immensely: The fly away halo is stubborn and majestic no headband or hair clip can tame it and that's her strength. The fly away halo should not be subdued it should be celebrated. Solitude forces you to see and accept your natural core being as well as your inner demons. In order to create balance let's love what we have been gifted.
Materials: ink, pencil, graphite, acrylic

Dimensions: 42.0 x 59.4cm

Year: 2020
